Space Planning: where design solutions start
For David Hales, every interior design project starts with space planning. What sort of functions are the various spaces going to be used for, what style of furniture is needed, and what type of lighting will this require? With the resolution of the details for each space as his foundation, the design solutions for the spaces themselves then become more straightforward, as do all the other building and construction-requirements.

In tandem with this approach, David’s space planning capabilities often helps business clients make much better use of a given set of spaces. This might be for clubs and restaurants to accommodate more people and covers, or for optimizing the way a set of rooms work to encourage a better and more efficient flow of traffic.

Maximising the potential of a given space
Below is an example of what we mean, a golf club was trying to work out how it could achieve increased bar and catering revenues by encouraging more members to come more often. They needed more seating area, larger spaces for major functions, more room for changing areas - and all within the existing footprint as no more extensions to the 100 year old clubhouse were going to be permitted.

DHID achieved a complete resolution of these issues, while demonstrating to the club’s decision-makers and membership that their clubhouse’s potential still had much more to offer, provided it was approached expertly.
